Cape May's first annual Harbor Fest kicks off this weekend, with the Nature Center at 1600 Delaware Ave.(right on the harbor) as the center of activity. Roast marshmallows on Friday night while you peak through telescopes at the starry skies. Saturday watch local chefs cook up Cape May's famous scallops, as the first ever kayak regatta glides through the harbor.
Friday Evening, June 20 Highlights:
7PM - A Blessing of the Waters with local clergy, to insure a safe and plentiful summer. At the Fisherman's Memorial, at the end of Missouri Ave. on the harbor.
An evening Summer Solstice Bonfire, and marshmallow roasting and Summer Night skies star watch at the Nature Center.
Saturday, June 21 Highlights:
10AM-5PM - A street festival at the Nature Center with prepared fresh seafood, live entertainment, kids' activities, arts and crafts and educational displays.
Scallop Cook off every 20 minutes during the day, by a different Caep May chef.
1-3PM Paddle for a Purpose Kayak Regatta in the harbor. $40 single, $70 double. Proceeds benefit Nature Center.
In addition to the Harbor Fest, Cape May rolls out its new and improved Washington Street Mall with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9:30AM Saturday at Washington and Ocean Sts. Live music before and after the ribbon cutting.
